STORYBOARD
Imagine raw emotion converted to sound, pushed through a
half-dozen guitar pedals, and divided into odd meter, and you will have
a good idea of what it is like to listen to Storyboard. The quartet
utilizes a huge range of electronic and organic sounds in songs that
escape formula, yet remain accessible. This is not background music; it
is music that moves and churns, swelling from delicate melodies into
walls of guitar. The band borrows elements from shoegaze, electronic,
post-rock, and math-rock, and their lush orchestration and intricate
arrangements have them being compared to Radiohead, Sigur Rós,
and Björk.
Formed in 2003, Storyboard quickly built a following in their native
Edmonton and were soon branching out to neighbouring areas. The group
received a recording grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and
released their debut album at a sold-out show in 2005. Critics called
the self-titled CD, "an emotional tour de force" (Phil Duperron, VUE
Magazine) and "an incredible feat" (Brendan Berg, Canadanoise.com).

TITLES AVAILABLE ON SUBMERGED
RECORDS
Storyboard was
on the verge of completing its second album, which was to have been its
Submerged Records debut, when the band broke up. While we're
disappointed that the second Storyboard release will remain unheard (for
now),
Submerged is pleased to make available the band's first, self-released
CD from 2005.
